The Stripe Tax on Small Transactions

5. Ethereum — When and Why

The exchange ledger is not a blockchain. It's a merkle-proof ledger with UNA governance. But Ethereum adds optional value for:

Immutable anchor: Periodically publish ledger root hash to Ethereum ($0.50-5.00/tx on L1, $0.01-0.10 on L2). Proves ledger wasn't tampered with — even if the server burns down.
USDC settlement: For producers who want to cash out to stablecoin instead of fiat. L2 fees are negligible.
Cross-exchange interop: If multiple regional exchanges exist, Ethereum provides a shared settlement layer. Future concern.
